My Indulgence was a Disappointment

Updated: Feb 26, 2020

In one, mercurial

Rational moment of clarity

The spell was broken

I saw through the veil

Just a small tear, really

Barely there

The wind stirring the fabric

Waffling gently and slowly

The frayed edges, parting

It was just enough to glimpse the truth

I stumbled backwards with a shudder

The vision broke the hold

No longer ensnared in the spiny grip

The grasp released from my throat

I averted my face

Shielded my eyes from the reality

Still it managed to sting me

I left a message

It was important

I needed to be heard

My indulgence was a disappointment

I could have said more

The events did not warrant it

I closed the door

Turned on my heel

Sped into the night

I can breathe again
