Strangers Still

They were strangers anyway

Made even more so now by what they will share forever

It will only serve to make things more strained

It will only serve to divide

One, feeling betrayed by his own weakness

The other, betrayed by a lover

The words of kindness and empathy have ceased

Replaced by silence

Reinforcing the view

That ignorance is no match for imprudence

And Carpe Diem isn’t always the wisest course of action

An unwanted gift was bestowed upon her

It was hidden in her belongings so she did not see it right away

She was getting ready for an adventure when she found it

It was a box full of infidelity and rejection

She found another gift later, in a smaller box

Rebuffed by a tourist

Strangers then, strangers still
