On being Sabine Ramage...

I met Sabine when I was in my 60’s, my nom de plume, my alter ego.  Why Sabine Ramage?  It fit, it suited me, it has good rhythm and cadence… Sabine meaning Woman of the Sabine people an homage to Italy.  Ramage is a family name. If you are wild in Scotland, you are ramage.  Sabine showed up to write, yet the moment she walked through the door of my magic nation, I knew this was the woman I really was. The name I should have had. It fit, it suited me…

I AM Sabine Ramage!

I enjoy writing, photography and creating jewelry.

It does not escape me that it might be a bit pretentious to call myself a writer.  I am not writing for any sort of posterity, no.  I write for the reasons expressed on the home page and I write for my own amusement I suppose.  So why put it in a public forum then?  Ah, good question.  Am I a seeker of notoriety, fame or attention?  Not usually.  I place my writings here solely because several friends and acquaintances who have read some of my work told me I should publish and this is my modus operandi to accomplish that end.  If you stumble across me and something I write resonates with you, then maybe we were separated at birth…I was adopted.

I like to take photographs.  Architecture, doors, nature, travel.   It is a diversion not a profession. I am fascinated by the world around me –in a split second the incredible beauty of a sunset, an interesting pattern of a building against the sky, and often the inescapable irony of life is captured and to add words is unnecessary.

I will take all credit for being an artisan when it comes to my jewelry. My designs are made from silver and semi-precious gemstones.  I have sold many pieces in local shops nearby where I live.  It is more than a diversion or a hobby, I guess I’d call it a sideline.

I live in the Pacific Northwest but I have traveled the world.  I've traveled from the Amalfi Coast to Papua New Guinea - and many points in between...but the country most near and dear to my heart is Italy.  I was certain my DNA test on Ancestry would come back showing an Italian connection.  It did not.  I was sorely grieved and sure there was a mistake so took the test at 23 and Me.  Alas, I am a Northern European mutt through and through, but considering how far north Caesar traveled, well speculation aside, on that alone I shall claim some Roman heritage.

I came of age in the 60's so I'm a little quirky, idiosyncratic and often mercurial but being raised by folks who lived through the Great Depression tempered those traits.

I have a section on here titled Roots.  I mentioned earlier that I was adopted.  It was a black-market adoption where I was purchased and transferred across state lines – 6 state lines to be exact.  I hope to share some insights about this journey that started in 1948 with TCHS.  Much has been written about TCHS already.  This will just be my perspective.

I wish you all peace and love - Sabine
