Lift the Rug

Updated: Mar 11, 2020

Never went swimming in the Pollyanna Pond

It was too full, not deep, just full

Full of itself mostly, any depth cluttered up with fake platitudes

Clichés

Preferred the wading pool of cynicism

There you can walk across the rocks of skepticism

The water so shallow

Superficial imperfections just beneath the surface

Nothing hidden from an incredulous mind

Intentionally questioning intentions

Is the truth really true?

Is their truth the same as yours?

Life is full of sliding doors

Swishing back and forth

Kinetic

Moving like shutters open, close, open, close

You have to be quick to stay on your feet

Don’t get caught in the crossfire

Hallways, Passages

Straight, narrow, twisted, dark, or bright

Right turns, too many and you circle back around

Did you mean to do that?

Left turns, careful you might slip back

Can you watch yourself and see where you went?

Juggle and jump

Dodge and deflect

Self-examination

Lift the rug, sweep
